Free content posted automatically to your blog. If you struggle to keep coming up with content, articles or posts to your wordpres blog there is a new autoposter on the block.

SeoLinkVine is a new auto posting network which gives you the opportunity to have loads of posts sent to your blog on autopilot. You can sign up for free and for the next week or so you will get $1 sent to your paypal account for each blog that you submit. So, it’s free and you get a $1 bonus.

Will it work? I don’t know and I would certainly not use it for my top blogs but I have several blogs that do not really fill me with enthusiasm and so I have added these just to get a whole bunch of posts for free. The blogs are set to send out new posts through Feedburner and they also tweet through Twitterfeed and so it should pull in some visitors through these and the RSS dirctories.

You can set up the posts so that you can have between 1 and 5 sent each day and you can auto approve or do it manually although that does seem to defeat the purpose and you can also automatically reject articles that are not at leeast 30% unique.

You can also get an affiliate link and for everyone that signs up through you you can get an extra dollar so check out Seolinkvine and lets all get a free $.

Ben Johnsons new wordpress plugin promises to be a best seller. With a one time payment you get to create customisable comparison display units on as many wordpress sites as you want.

I found the units simple to create once you have gone through all the steps to configure the plugin, could this be easier? Yes, I think the registration and licence procedure could be a little better, (edit: Ben has put some clearer instructions on the blog)

The plugin is similar to Popshops without the monthly fee, and can pull in products from Linkshare, Amazon and Commission Junction at the moment although more are in the pipeline apparently. Even with these three you have millions of products to choose from and so I can’t foresee a problem with that.

My advice? Buy it but do read the PDF file that comes with it, I have a tendency to go on instinct and with this product that was an error on my part. Check it out: Comparipress

All of us are searching for the golden keyword, you know the one that has thousands of searches with no competition and a high priced affiliate product at the end.

Is this like searching for the golden fleece? Does it actually exist?

Like many affiliate marketers I was brought up on the dream of the golden keyword.Once upon a time it was easy to find the odd nugget but it is getting a little trickier now.

I see many affiliate marketers falling into the trap of spending so much time looking for the right keyword, the one that has X number of searches, competition under Y, that they don’t actually do anything but search. And they make no money.

For years we have been told to check keywords out by putting them in quotes and searching on Google to find out how much competition there is, this is OK up to a point but it really doesn’t tell you what you need to know.

The “quote” search only tells you how many pages are indexed with that exact phrase on the page, it is NOT an indication of competition. In any niche certain phrases will come up time and time again and they will be on a web page but that does not mean that the page is actually targeted for that phrase.

Example: Listen to any conversation about golf, how many times will terms such as ‘driver’ or ‘wedge’ come up? Yet the conversation may really be about The Masters, or ‘Golf Bags’ Related but unconnected and therefore not competition, the same applies to keywords and web pages.

The most reliable way to find the competition you are battling is to use these terms:

inurl:”keyword” Will return pages with the exact phrase in their url.

inanchor:”keyword” Will return pages with backlinks containing the exact phrase.

intitle:”keyword” Will return pages with the exact keyword in the page title.

If a web page has these features then it is a fair bet that it has been optimised for that phrase. This does indicate proper competition.

If, after checking the keyword for these factors you find that there is a lot of competing pages does that mean the keyword is no good? Not necessarily, you then need to check how strong these pages are by examining the Page Rank, the age, the number of backlinks etc.

Using a tool like SEO for Firefox this is a fairly simple procedure although a little time consuming. You can find keywords with seemingly thousands of competing web pages but on investigation the top ten results might have no pages with any PR or backlinks, these will be easy to beat.

On the other hand another keyword may have only a handful of competing pages but they are all PR5/6 with thousands of backlinks, you will spend years trying to get above those and possibly never will.

Keyword research is something you love or hate but it is a fact that you will not make money online without it.

Is there a golden keyword? Of course but you may waste months or even years looking for it, lower your sights and take action, find keywords you can target using the method above and then commit.

If you have the budget there is a tool that will do all this for you and more, it’s called MicroNicheFinder, it’s the one I use every day and I couldn’t live without it. See for yourself here

We all know the frustration of doing loads of research, writing tons of content, designing a page and getting a domain and then waiting for Google to come around a decide to index it.

It’s like waiting for your birthday when you are five years old, checking the index, twiddling your thumbs, checking the index, it just seems to take forever. Of course the sensible thing to be doing is, more research and building another site.

There is really no way of telling when or indeed if Google is going to index your beautiful, information packed website but there may be a simple way to perhaps hurry it up a little.

Is My Site Indexed.Com claims to do just that, it’s as easy as inputing your domain name into a box, click check and ISMI will build a page containing backlinks to your site. All you have to do is hold down the CTRL button and click on each of the links and, they claim, the search engine spiders will be rushing to your domain.

Does it work? I honestly do not know, I do know that Google and the other search engines will follow backlinks pretty quickly, like a nosy neighbour and I guess that if you put out some spider bait with some nice anchor text they are going to find your site a whole lot quicker.

Anyways up, it is a free service if you don’t go buying up the links they inevitably offer you and it will work or not, for the two minutes it takes to fill out the form and click the links it is probably worth giving it a go.

You can try it yourself here, let me know if it has any effect.

How’s your SEO?

If you are trying to make money online you will have heard the term SEO, but do you really know what it is?

SEO or search engine optimisation is the flavour of the month or should I say, past couple of years and it is considered a vital skill to have in your business armoury but you need to know how to use it to your advantage otherwise it can bite back.

You read so many articles saying optimise your page, use your keyword over and over, let the search engines know what your page is about and you will rank higher. This is true to a certain extent but it is not search engines who are your paying customers, you need to write the content on your page so that humans can read it and understand it.

There are a few accepted ground rules when it comes to SEO and they are fairly easy to grasp. If you follow the basic rules but write your articles for your readers then ranking will follow, it may take a little longer but it will also last. Writing content for the search engines will possibly get ranked in the results faster but it will also drop out of the listings like a stone, never to be seen again.

The basic rules for SEO are:

Page Title; That’s the bit at the top of your screen in the blue bar. Obviously if your page is about red dog leads then you would expect the page to be called red dog leads.

Meta Tags: There are two main meta tags, description and keyword. If you construct your own HTML you put these in the header, if you build with wordpress and use All In One SEO which you do, don’t you? you fill in the boxes at the bottom of the edit post page.

The keyword meta tag is pretty useless now except for keyword spy programs and Matt Cutts at Google has said that they ignore it, fill it in or don’t your choice.

The description tag is a different matter, this tag is about 160 characters long and is the snippet that shows in the search results. It is vital that you put a meta description in your page for two reasons.

1) When the snippet is shown any words that the searcher has entered into the box will be bolded, if they search ‘red dog leads’ and your meta description has ‘red dog leads’ in it the words will be bolded, this makes it more likely that a searcher will click on it.

2) The meta description is your little sales page, if you write a compelling description even if your page is down the page a bit it is again more likely to get that click.

Heading Tags: There is one tag that is vital and this is the h1 tag. This tag is your headline and the words within it do get attention from the search engines. If a page has a headline that says’ Red Dog Leads’ the SE’s will use that in their algorithm to decide what your page is relevant to. There are a descending list of tags,
h2, h3 and so on and these should be used to format the page, readers like it because it chops the page into smaller parts and SEs like it because they ‘see’ how the information is arranged.

Image Tags: Search engines cannot read images, you could have a picture of Cheryl Cole on the page but if you use the image tags the search engines will think it’s a picture of red dog leads. It would be pointless for your readers and so keep your images relevant but use your keywords in the tags.

Link Titles: If you have a link on the page give it a title, this is just extra information but it can be used for getting a keyword on your page.

Keyword Density: If you are targeting a keyword or phrase you need to make sure it is on the page in its exact form so, ‘red dog leads’ and ‘dog leads red’ are different keywords, related but different. Ensure your keyword is included about once for every 100 words or 1%, no more than 2%. Any more than this can mark your page as spam and it will get slapped.

All this seems a lot to remember but there are tools that can help you and one I use for just about every page is Traffic Travis, there’s a free or paid version but I only use the free one for double checking my posts. It’s quick and just catches the odd error here and there.

One more point, and it’s related, is off page SEO, this is primarily aimed at the guys that do link building with articles but everyone should be aware of it.

If you submit an article to EzineArticles for instance, you get the chance to put a couple of links to your site in the resource box at the bottom. These links can be very profitable if you use them correctly.

Always use your keywords as the anchor text, do not put something like ‘ Find out about Good SEO Here‘ unless you want to be ranked for ‘Here.’

Finish your article with a couple of sentences that follow on from your article seamlessly and find out about good seo and keyword research and how it can bring you more website traffic.

I have had a couple of messages regarding Micronichefinder and I thought that it would be good idea to clear them up. One reader was clearly very unhappy and was holding me responsible because I recommended the program to him.

He wrote “This program (MNF) is complete crap! Its a scam! The figures are totally imaginary, I have checked keyword after keyword between micronichecrap and google and none of them match up, total waste of time!!!!!!” and so on.

Frankly, it was an impressive email stretching to 800 words. If he had spent that time productively he would have had a nice article instead! Ha,Ha.

I’m pleased to say we are now back to being friends. The problem he had, and believe me we all have it at one time or another, was, he didn’t read the manual!

Micronichefinder will return a number for “exact phrase count” which is the number of pages on Google for a given keyword. This phrase is searched by the program which asks for the result in 100 returns at a time.

Now, Google on your computer has a default setting of 10 results per page, this is a speed issue, however you can reset this through the search settings at the top of the page. Now try this, search for a phrase, I used “braun electric razors”

MNF returned a count of 44 pages with that exact phrase, but when I went to Google I found it said :

But when I changed the search settings I got:

So, be careful when comparing any results that you are actually comparing like for like.

The other message I have had was regarding the MOB function. This number is the “Measure of Backlinks” and represents an idea of how many backlinks would be required to get on page one of Google. Now there is more to getting page one than backlinks but it does give a good idea of what competition you are up against.

I am not going to bore you with a great long explanation but will point you to a video which explains exactly what the MOB feature is.

We discussed yesterday how we determine if Google is going to want the content that we produce based on our keyword research, we looked at broad match and exact match search but there are a couple of others that can also guide us on the way.

The first one is called all in anchor. This looks for web pages that have the eyword phrase in any anchor text. This is the wording on the page that provides a hyperlink like this:

Good Keyword Research

Why do we want to know this? Well it is one way of finding out how many pages are being optimised for the keyword. If someone has produced a page with this phrase and hyperlinked it then they are obviously targeting the keyword.

Another way of finding optimised pages is the all in title search. Again this will find pages that are probably going after the keywords.

How do we find these pages?

Simply by opening up your Google and typing:

allinanchor:”keyword”

allintitle: “keyword”

By doing these searches you can really drill down and find the competition. Obviously the lower the number of pages that are returned the better.

As you do these sarches it is always a god idea to take a peak at the pages that are returned. This will let you know what sort of content Google is ranking and why.

A great tool for speeding up the process is the seo tool for Firefox. Are you using Firefox? No? Why not?

Download Firefox here and get the Seo tool for it here

Straight in today, does Google need our content? And how do we find out?

Google serves up results based on an algorithm which basically is a fancy piece of software that collects and sorts web pages. This software is highly secret or otherwise webmasters would just analyse it and find ways of artificially increasing their web sites rankings.

Like scientists who discover planets in the far off galaxies we can’t directly observe this algorithm, we can only measure it by the effect it has. Oh my god!!

There a few ways of determining whether Google will want the content we produce based on our keywords and although perhaps not entirely accurate it is based again on best guess.

So, we have found a keyword phrase of three to six words, now what? Well first we need to know how much other information is already out there that Google knows about.

The simplest way to do this is to go the the search engine and type in our keyword. Google will return a list of results with an indication of how many pages it thinks is relevant to the search. If you get a return of over two million you may want to start over.

Now to refine this very broad search is to enclose your keyword in quotes i.e. “keyword phrase” and search again. You will notice that now there are much fewer returns. This is called exact search and identifies pages that contain the exact phrase, hence the name. This gives you a much better indication of how many other pages you will be competing against.

As a rough guide I like to look for competition numbers of less than 50,000 and the lower the better. After you have done this there are a couple of other ways to gauge the work you will have to do but we will discuss them next time.

Hi all,

I hope we are all grabbing some coin, and starting to make a living online. This is part six, I think of my mini series on finding profitable keywords.

The point we are covering today is, does Google want or need your information? I read every day on the various forums that I visit, Google does not like affiliate sites!, Google does not want anyone to make money online! Google de-indexes Squidoo, Bans, PHPBay sites.

Let me tell you, this is complete b*ll*cks. Google does not hate affiliate sites, build a niche store sites or any kind of site per se. What Google does like is information, it eats it up and if you can feed it something it has not had before it is your best friend.

Hear what I’m saying? Unique content, people! I will yell that at you UNIQUE CONTENT!!!

Point two was ‘Does Google need your content? Think about this for a minute. Google is the number one search engine and it got to that position by serving up web pages to searches that it thought were relevant.

OK, it’s not perfect but then nothing is, there are many billions of web pages and trying to sort them into what is relevant and what is not is one hell of a job.

Let no one tell you they know the secret of Google. They don’t. ( unless they are Matt Cutts of course) We as affiliates work on what can only ever be, best guess because Google or Matt Cutts aint telling, so what is best guess. Lets look at it from Google’s point of view.

Google does not care if you earn money online, Google does not hate affiliates. What Google cares about is providing their customers with information about the keyword the customer provided. So all we have to do is feed Google with info that it has not had anywhere else.

This is easier said than done of course but by producing unique content we have a head start. We need to do a little research to find out what it needs….continued tomorrow….
